PIR Cross Crusade Photo Slideshow (no SSCXWC yet)

A warning: this post is not from SSCXWC08. These photographs contain the prim and proper endeavors of “regular” cross riders. Sunday’s top racers were fast. Really, really, really fast. Likewise, some of Sunday’s racers were not quite as speedy while spinning in 3-inch deep sludge.

But, besides hammer-till-you-puke racing, these people care about serious athletic achievements like clipped-in mud cartwheels. Or even more importantly, the ability to put your left foot on red, your right foot on blue, left hand on green and right hand on yellow – while drinking a beer.

Oh sure, you might see a costumed gentleman with a sword made of PBR cans or a plastic pony here and there. But, don’t take them seriously. They are just getting ready for that ‘other’ race. Nothing to see here. Move along. These aren’t the cyclists you are looking for.

This is bike racing. This is cyclocross. No smiling. No laughing. No fun.

SSCXWC08 photos to come – check back later.

  1. The classic “Scorpion”–painful and humiliating. Great shot.

  3. Picture #40

I love the note directing Seattle racers to bypass the barriers and the schwirling in the PBR viking’s pint glass.

  5. [...] you want to get a feel for it, look at some more great pics from PDXcross. I don’t even know why I bother posting pics when I can just link to [...]

  6. These are the greatest, funniest, most artistic set of ‘cross pictures I’ve ever seen. Every photo has a story and not just your run of the mill action shot. Love it. Please keep up the good work. Ever thought of publishing a book. I definitely will buy one for myself and a few for my friends.

BTW: I keep on seeing guys wearing cycling caps with the word BEER on the bill. Where do I purchase one so I can add it to my collection?

  9. The guy in slide 16 was racing me to the finish line. In rejoycing that he beat me he tried to show off and skid his back wheel out to the side resulting in road rash.
